Plié (pronounced plee-ay) is the cool underwear brand from Brazil. Established in 1998 by the Highstil Group in São Paulo, the brand promise is smooth, sensual, seam-free lingerie and leisurewear for today’s modern, dynamic women. The Plié brand is a registered trademark around the world and now sells in more than 30 countries. The shapewear selection is called the Control range and comes with comfort designed in. Plié guarantee you’ll want to wear their smoothing shapewear products all day long. Every fibre is treated with the unique “moisture- management” so that perspiration is drawn gently away from the skin and as it naturally evaporates, it keeps you cool. This treatment lasts for the lifetime of the garment. Plié were also the first to incorporate their silicone hold-up hem system. On all high waist garments, they include a silicone banding inside the upper hem that is barely visible but dramatically reduces the “roll down” problem.

Plié has been available in Europe since 2004 with their EU partners, Brazilian Shapewear. Managing Director Ellie de Souza Cruz is optimistic about the coming months, despite tricky trading conditions. “We’re still seeing growth despite the downturn and we can only put it down to women seeing their shapewear as an “essential” these days, often replacing conventional undergarments with something that gives them a better silhouette”.

ELEMAR DE SOUZA CRUZ PEARCE- MANAGING DIRECTOR, Plié Europe
Brazilian born Elemar founded her company Brazilian Shapewear in 2004 with her British husband and business partner John. Having both worked as a International Trade and Marketing Consultant for many of Brazil’s leading companies, Ellie spotted a trend towards shapewear in the underwear business and noticed Brazilian designers had a lot to offer.

She also saw that the Brazilian brands were developing shapewear with more emphasis on comfort and “cool”, making garments designed to flatter the female figure but “never be an embarrassment in the bedroom”. After months of negotiations, Elemar eventually sealed the deal to distribute the Plié brand across the whole of Europe. She’s since won distribution rights in Africa and the Middle East.

Originally qualified as a Journalist and PR, Elemar uses her natural communication skills in a number of different languages to let women all over Europe know about how wonderfully comfortable modern Brazilian shapewear is. Dividing her year between Brazil, UK and Portugal, Elemar is involved at every stage of product development, right through to marketing and customer feedback, bringing the very latest Plié shapewear and leisurewear designs to women looking for the most comfortable, best fitting shapewear.
